Download YouTube Shorts

A Short is gone the second you flick past it. The feed does not rewind in any useful way, the clip you wanted is four swipes back up, and when you finally land on it again there is still no file — only a video playing inside an app that will not hand it over.

Downloading YouTube Shorts here is the short version of that story: copy the link, paste it, keep the MP4.

Copy the link to the Short

In the app, the buttons run down the right-hand edge of the clip — like, dislike, comment, then the arrow. Tap the arrow, then Copy link. Nothing is posted anywhere; the arrow is just where YouTube files the link.

On a desktop it is sitting in the address bar already, and it does not look like a normal video’s address. A Short is youtube.com/shorts/ followed by the id, where an ordinary upload is youtube.com/watch?v= followed by the same kind of id. Same site, two shapes of address, one for the vertical feed and one for the player.

Paste either one. The same clip comes back, because the id is the part that matters and the rest is packaging. Anything trailing on the end — a share tag, a tracking string the app tacked on — is dropped.

Paste it and press MP4

Open the Shorts downloader and drop the link in the field. Grab reads the clip and hands back a card — who posted it, what it is called, how long it runs — with the quality list filling in underneath.

That list is read off the upload, not written by us. Most Shorts are filmed on a phone and posted vertical, so the top entry is usually 1080 by 1920. Most Shorts are small and land quickly — a forty-second clip is a few megabytes and arrives almost as soon as you press the button.

What you get is the video as YouTube holds it. If the creator shot it in another app first and posted it here, whatever was burned into the picture there is part of the frames now — a corner logo, a username, a caption baked in. That cannot be lifted out afterwards by anyone. Nothing of ours is added on top: no logo, no tag, no extra second at the end.

A Short, a normal video, a soundtrack

One field takes all three. The pages are split up only because that is how people search for them. Vertical clips have their own page. An ordinary landscape upload goes through the video downloader, where the resolution list runs as high as the upload does and another article walks through choosing from it. When only the sound is wanted — a track someone used, a voice-over worth keeping — there is the MP3 converter.

The walls are the same walls the rest of YouTube has, and they are worth knowing before you meet one. Every so often YouTube reads our requests as machine-made and shuts the door for a few minutes; the page says as much instead of failing silently, and the same link goes through on the next try. Age-restricted clips need a signed-in adult account, and there is no account on this side, so those do not come through at all. The sixty-minute ceiling is the one limit you will never touch here: a Short stops at three minutes by design.

The other half is what you are entitled to take. Your own uploads, material you hold a licence for, a creator’s work they are happy to see travel. A Short reposted under someone else’s name is not a grey area — the clip having passed through a downloader does not make it theirs.

Where the file lands on your phone

On Android it goes to the Downloads folder and the gallery finds it on its own. On an iPhone it does not reach Photos at all: Safari drops it into Files, in the Downloads folder, where it plays perfectly well. To move it into the camera roll, open it in Files, tap Share, then Save Video. There is a whole article about that folder if it is new to you, and the other phone-side notes sit in the blog.

FAQ

What quality do I get?

Whatever was uploaded. Most Shorts are 1080 by 1920, and that is what the list offers; a clip posted at a lower resolution cannot be raised to a higher one.

Can I save a Short as MP3?

Yes. The MP3 button sits on the same card, and the converter page takes a /shorts/ link as readily as any other.

Will the file have a watermark?

Nothing is added here. A mark burned in by whatever app the clip was made in stays, because by then it is part of the picture.

Why does it say YouTube is temporarily blocking requests?

That is YouTube’s automated-traffic check, not a fault in the clip. Give it a minute, then send the same link again — it lifts by itself.

Can I download an age-restricted Short?

No. Those open only for a signed-in adult account, and there is none behind this site.

So: copy the link from the arrow, paste it on the Shorts page, press MP4. Then the clip is a file, and files do not disappear when you scroll.
