Drop a photo and the background is gone: the subject comes back as a PNG with transparency, ready for a design, a listing, a sticker or a profile picture. Pick a colour instead, or upload your own picture, and the page puts the subject on it and hands you a PNG and a JPG.
The cut-out is made by a segmentation model that runs on our own server, not in your browser and not through a third-party API. It is at its best with people, animals and products on a background that differs from them. Very fine hair, glass and dark clothes on a dark background may need a touch-up afterwards, and we would rather say so than promise studio results.

Frequently asked questions
What photos work best?
People, animals and objects on a background that differs from them in colour or brightness. A product on a table, a portrait against a wall, a pet on grass all cut cleanly.
Where does it struggle?
Very fine hair, fur against a similar colour, glass, smoke and dark clothes on a dark background. The edge there is soft rather than crisp, and a quick touch-up in an editor is sometimes needed.
Does it change the resolution?
No. The mask is computed on a smaller view and applied to your original pixels, so the PNG has the size of the photo you uploaded.
Which formats can I upload and get back?
JPG, PNG and WEBP up to 25 MB and 6000 px on the long side. You get a PNG with transparency and a JPG; with a colour or picture background both files carry it.
Is this an AI model?
Yes, a segmentation network (IS-Net) that runs on our server on the CPU. It takes a few seconds per photo, and jobs run one at a time, so a queue may add a moment.
How long do you keep my photo?
The upload is deleted the moment the result is ready, and the result goes about a minute after you download it, or after 15 minutes if you do not.
